Ontario’s Covid-19 cases have spiked to their highest level since late June. The 0.5% jump from Monday’s 135 new cases sent the total number above what Ontario was experiencing in late June. 203 new cases were reported on Tuesday morning, which brought the lab-confirmed cases to 37,942 in the province. Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted Tuesday morning, calling the increase “concerning.” 116 out of the 203 new cases were people 39 years of age or younger, a trend that has increased in the past week, said Elliot.
“Ontarians of all ages need to continue to adhere to public health guidelines,” explained Elliott. “Maintaining only one social circle of 10 people, physically distancing with anyone outside of it, and wearing a face-covering when doing so is a challenge.”
The increased cases in young people are “shocking.” He said that even though young people feel invincible, “it’s going to be a different story for your parents and your relatives.” Premier Doug Ford reported on Monday.
