China makes commitment to go carbon-neutral by 2060

On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that China would aim to stop contributing to the global warming problem by 2060. 

Xi’s announcement is a massive step for the world’s biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, calling for a “green revolution.”

“Humankind can no longer afford to ignore the repeated warnings of nature,” he said, as he explained that the coronavirus pandemic proved that the need to preserve the environment is critical, “We aim to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.”
