A professor at the University of Ottawa calls the online booking system for COVID-19, launched by the Ontario Children’s Hospital, “unethical” and “discriminatory.”
The new online system launched last week, and it allows parents to schedule appointments for their children under 18 at the Brewer Arena test site.
According to Timothy Lethbridge, who teaches software engineering and computer science, who’s 13-year-old daughter developed COVID-19 symptoms early last week, scheduling a test is a lottery.
Available test slots are posted online at 8:30 p.m. with spots that open up due to cancellations added throughout the day.
“The rule of thumb is, in order to get an appointment, you have to game the system,” he said.
