On Monday, China said it launched a new spacecraft to test and see whether the vehicle could be reused. Zhao Lijian, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson explained the launch was of “great significance for reducing the use-cost of spacecraft and could provide a convenient and affordable way to make a round trip for mankind’s peaceful use of space.”

The Chinese space program is operated by its military and is closely tied with different military technologies. Their military has an agenda on constructing hypersonic missiles which could change their relationship with the United States. Zhao continued to explain that “China will work together with other countries in the world for the peaceful use of space and the benefit of mankind.”

Zhao’s comments came days after China launched another three-person crew to work on the space station for six months. China’s space program has been advancing rapidly over the past years as they strive to hit new milestones. However, some concerns are being raised over the country’s efforts in building hypersonic missile technology.
