Canada was unable to guarantee a spot in the World Cup Thursday night as Costa Rica was able to shut them out. The Canadian men lost the match 1-0 and they had to play a man down for almost two-thirds of the match. However, the squad just needs to collect two points in their last two qualifying matches to seal the deal.

The Canadians look to solidify their position on Sunday in Toronto against the No. 62 Jamaica at the BMO Field. The Jamaican team has only won one game out of their 12 qualifying matches. The Canadians will play their last match on Wednesday on the road against No.63 Panama. Team Canada could also tie in the last two matches to guarantee a spot in the World Cup.

John Herdman, Team Canada’s Coach said “we’re not looking over our shoulder. (Our) destiny’s in our hands, … We’ve got the quality here, we’ve got the spirit to go and win this outright. We can take control of our destiny. … We’ll take care of business this weekend. And if it doesn’t get taken care of there, we’ll take care of it in Panama. We’ll get to Qatar.”
