In a recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), only immediate climate action will keep global temperatures from rising. The report includes serious predictions about the planet unless action is taken right now. The United Nations experts did also offer a glimmer of hope.

The report was released Monday and explained that in order to stop temperatures from rising 1.5 C, ambitious climate action must be immediately taken. That target was also a benchmark agreed to in the 2015 Paris Agreement. If temperatures keep rising there could be some extreme climate change with severe impacts on people and wildlife.

Co-chair of IPCC Working Group III Priyadarshi Shukla said “having right policies, infrastructure and technology in place to enable changes to our lifestyles and behaviour can result in a 40-70 per cent reduction in in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” The organization proposed an idea to spray sea salt into marine clouds, making them more reflective. This would potentially reflect some solar radiation back into space.
