As the harsher and colder weather conditions start to roll in, it is important that your vehicle is prepared for the snow and ice. Experts from Edmunds have five steps you can go through that will make winter driving less intimidating.

The first step is to switch to winter tires as the standard tires a vehicle comes with are all-season tires. All-seasons are suitable in all conditions however it does not master any condition. So if you want to get the best grip and stability on snowy or icy roads, switch to winter tires as they are engineered for that exact situation.

The second step is to get your vehicle inspected by a mechanic or trained professional. Very cold weather can increase wear and tear on specific parts of your vehicle, especially if the car is several years old. It’s important to get the inspection as soon as possible so if any repairs need to be made, they will be done before wintertime fully sets in.

It is important to replace or top up your wipers and windshield fluids to increase visibility on the road. The fourth step is to buy a block heater as it will help your car startup on those very cold days. The last step is to prepare an emergency kit just in case you were to slide off the road and get stuck in the middle of nowhere.
