According to sources, masking will not be required in schools, stores, and restaurants starting March 21. The two sources are with Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government and it was first reported by Toronto Star. The Ford government scrapped its vaccine certificate system on March 1 as well as COVID-19 capacity limits in indoor settings.

Proof of vaccinations is no longer needed at most restaurants, gyms, and movie theatres. Nightclubs, sporting and concert venues were able to get rid of capacity limits and restrictions. During a news conference last Thursday, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore told reporters the province could lift mask mandates by the end of March.

This news comes as the more transmissible Omicron variant continues to wane in the province. The province’s top doctor will hold a briefing Wednesday morning to make the announcement. Premier Doug Ford made an announcement before the briefing at 10 a.m.
