Ontario speeds up its next step of COVID-19 reopening on Thursday, four days ahead of schedule. Premier Doug Ford spoke at a news conference Monday morning and said the decisions were based on recommendations from the province’s chief medical officer of health. The premier said, “This is great news and a sign of just how far we’ve come together in our fight against the virus.”
Starting today, social gathering limits will increase to 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. Organized public events were increased to 50 people indoors with no limits outdoors. Capacity limits will be removed in many indoor public settings where proof of vaccination is required.
Venues with no capacity limits included restaurants, bars, event spaces, cinemas, casinos, bingo halls, and others. They are allowing 50 percent of the usual seating capacity for concert venues and theatres. There will be an increased indoor capacity limit to 25 per cent in the remaining higher risk settings where proof-of-vaccination is required.
