    On Thursday, three school’s closed as Ontario reported another 158 cases of COVID-19 in its public schools. Compared to this point last week, there were 20 more cases. The Ministry of Health said 135 of the cases were amongst students, and 22 in staff members. Currently, there are 1,627 known active cases of COVID-19 in the public school system, which is 30 per cent of the active cases in Ontario.

    The previous week cases in schools were rising by more than 100 each day. Out of the 4,844 publicly funded schools, 3 of them have closed including one in London, Ontario, and the other in Courtice, Ontario. At the same time last year, the daily average case count was 302 in Ontario schools.

    There have been a total of 240 classrooms and cohorts have been sent home due to COVID-19 exposure. On Wednesday, the Ontario Chief Medical Officer Dr.Kieran Moore announced new programs to identify COVID-19 outbreaks in children at schools.
