    On Tuesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 687 new infections of COVID-19 signifying a decrease from the weekend. Of the cases reported today, 310 were found in unvaccinated individuals and 308 were found in vaccinated people. Currently, there are 266 people in hospitals with COVID-19 and 148 patients are being treated in intensive care units.

    The seven-day rolling average rose to 794 today as it was at 656 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 3.5 per cent as it processed over 26,016 tests in the last 24-hour period. Ontario announced its first two cases of the new Omicron variant on Sunday and reported zero today.

    On Sunday, the province reported the highest number of new cases in a single day since May. More than 86 per cent of eligible people in Ontario are fully vaccinated. As of yesterday, Ontario has administered 22,950,908 vaccine doses.
