    Ontario Logs More Than 3,700 New COVID-19 Cases Today

    On Monday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 3,783 new infections of COVID-19 signifying a slight decrease from the weekend. On Sunday, the province confirmed the highest daily count since late April with 4,177 new cases reported. There are at least 284 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 164 people are in intensive care units.

    The seven-day rolling average rose to 2,863 today as it was at 1,328 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 9.7 per cent as it processed over 44,123 tests in the last 24-hour period. Today the province announced anyone aged 18 and older can book an appointment for a booster shot starting today.

    According to Ontario, out of the total number of cases reported Monday, 471 cases involved children under the age of 12. There were 1,056 new cases logged in Toronto, 310 cases in York Region, and 381 in Peel Region. The province also reported 240 cases in Halton Region, 273 in Ottawa, and 181 in Hamilton.
