    The Ontario government has updated the science curriculum with students to start learning coding in Grade 1. The Education Minister, Stephen Lecce announced the revised curriculum during a press conference in Toronto on Tuesday. According to the Education Minister, the update will go into effect in September 2022. 

    According to the announcement, the new science curriculum will be “modernizing education” and teaching “real-world experiences. Under the new curriculum, there is a new strand that will focus on applying science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The government said this new STEM program will provide students with “critical life and job skills”

    Lecce explained that “Ontario’s new science and technology curriculum is focused on giving young people the skills to think critically, dream boldly and chart new pathways forward for our economy,” Students will begin learning coding from Grade 1 and will continue learning those skills until at least Grade 9.
