The Premier of Ontario is expected to consider new regulations this week to speed up the economic reopening timeline. This comes after local and provincial politicians pressured the Ford government to make a change. Multiple sources said the premier personally asked for new regulations to be drawn up to fast-track reopening schedules.

A spokesperson for the premier said that there is no official meeting scheduled this week but sources said the cabinet could consider the near measure as early as Friday. The spokesperson did not deny or agree that the premier is considering speeding up reopening. It is still unclear whether proof of vaccination or mandatory masking policies would be dropped as well.

Ontario would be the most recent province to announce a quicker COVID-19 exit plan. The government in Saskatchewan and Alberta both announced an almost immediate end to all COVID-19 measures. This included masking and they called on other levels of government to follow suit.
