Dr. Kieran Moore will be holding a news conference at 3 p.m. to provide additional updates on COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. The meeting comes as more local public health units are reverting back to stricter health measures. The public health units are also issuing additional guidance to residents in light of the fast-spreading Omicron variant.
The briefing will be available live on CTVNewsToronto.ca or on the CTV News app. Peterborough is the most recent region to instruct workplaces to have all non-essential staff work from home if possible. Those new measures are set to take effect on Wednesday and restaurants will need to ensure tables are at least two metres apart or separated by a barrier.
Ontario’s panel of expert advisers on COVID-19 say the Omicron makes up roughly 30 per cent of all new daily infections. Ottawa Public Health is warning that a backlog in its contact-tracing system was caused by the surge in Omicron cases. The agency is urging anyone who tests positive to self-isolate and to alert anyone they have been in contact with.
