Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford will be giving an update on the province’s COVID-19 vaccine booster strategy Wednesday afternoon. This comes just days after eligibility opened up for people over the age of 50. Ford is set to speak at Queen’s Park with Health Minister Christine Elliot, Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore at 2 p.m.

The conference will be live-streamed on CTVNewsToronto.ca and the CTV News Toronto app. People aged 50 to 69 became eligible to book their third dose of the vaccine on Monday. The government has received some criticism for moving too slowly with its booster strategy amid the Omicron variant.

Due to the criticism, Moore said Tuesday that the province has been working with health partners to ramp up vaccination capacity. He also indicated there may be further measures to help stop the spread of Omicron. The reopening plan in Ontario was paused in November as the number of daily COVID-19 infections started increasing quickly.
