Travellers may find it difficult securing a PCR test, or showing proof that they recently recovered from the novel coronavirus. There are lots of Canadians who had vacations booked when the pandemic first occurred and have delayed them till now. As March break approaches and COVID-19 restrictions lift, many are anxious to follow through with their long-awaited travel plans.

Travel agency Flight Centre said bookings for trips departing from Canadian airports in March have spiked more than 700 per cent. This is compared to the amount of departing flights in March 2021. Flight Centre spokesperson Allison Wallace said “There is no question there’s pent-up demand,… People … want to take that trip that they’ve been waiting for. “

However, despite the surge in flight bookings, many residents may find it difficult to return to Canada. Canadians must show proof of a negative molecular test(such as PCR test) within 72 hours of their departing flight of planned arrival at the land border. Due to Omicron’s rapid spread, it may be difficult for Canadians to book their pre-entry test or get the results in time.
