Researchers discovered mysterious but neatly aligned holes deep in the ocean and many are confused about their origin. Appearing as small, oblong cavities, the holes are spaced out about 10 centimetres apart and repeat. In some cases you can see the holes stretch out for several metres.

A deep-sea biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA) said “It looks a little bit like a sewing machine pushed its way through the bottom,” The researchers discovered the set of holes two-and-a-half kilometres below the surface of the Atlantic ocean north of the Azores last month.

It took a few days for them to find more holes, this time they were 1,5000 metres deep on the Azores Plateau. The findings are interesting because the symmetry of the holes is unexplained but some believe an animal is the culprit.
