Residents in Toronto can expect to pay three per cent more on water bills and garbage collection fees next year. However, the City budget committee said parking rates will remain the same.  The committee will meet Friday to review staff recommendations for what they call “rate-supported budgets for water, solid waste, and parking management.”

Those budgets are for services that are mostly paid for by user fees charged to residents and businesses. If the committee approves the water rate increase, the average household would pay an extra $29 in 2022. This means after January 1, the average household bill will go from $91 to $979 annually. The increase will also apply to industrial and commercial users.

When looking at the garbage and recycling increase, owners of single-family homes will see prices rise around $8 to $16.  In 2022, the annual price for a small bin would be $278.34 and the cost of an extra-wide bin would be $532.29. While the proposed waste budget is set at $390 million, Toronto Water expects to spend $1.4 billion next year.
