Teachers are concerned about their well-being and quality of education amid Pandemic

Since returning to the classroom amid the coronavirus pandemic, Kelly Main, a high school teacher, says she has never felt so exhausted and stressed out in her 27 years of teaching.

Main, who teaches grades 10 and 12 in Waterloo, Ontario, has a lot of trouble delivering school material to students, ever since the Waterloo Region School Board adopted a hybrid system to have a smaller number of students in classrooms.

“We’re expected to deliver the material every day to both cohorts; she said, “You’re never going to be on the same page because it’s obviously harder to be working online.”

Rachel Collishaw, president of the Ontario History and Social Science Teachers’ Association, explains that teachers are putting the students’ well-being above their own, which will cause problems with stress at the end of the day.
