Throne speech gives plan to make tech giants pay taxes

On Wednesday, the Liberal government’s Throne speech announced Ottawa’s plan to help Canada’s cultural Industries by charging taxes from large global social media entertainment companies. 

U.S.-based platforms, including Facebook, Google, and Netflix, were part of the speech that addressed “corporate tax avoidance by digital giants.”

French Governor, General Julie Payette, said: “The government will act to ensure their revenue is shared more fairly with our creators and media, and will also require them to contribute to the creation, production, and distribution of our stories, on screen, in lyrics, in music, and in writing.”
