COVID-19 vaccine study paused over unexplained illness

Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine study has been paused while the company investigates whether a participant’s “unexplained illness” is related to the vaccine.

On Monday, the company said, accidents and illnesses “are an expected part of any clinical study, especially large studies,” but that their safety monitoring panel would determine what caused the illness.

This is the second time a vaccine study is paused among several that have reached final tests in the U.S.
