Easy Tips to Freshen up your Home
Did you know that there are tons of ways to give your home a new look while being affordable? I’m not talking about just rearranging your furniture – although that is an easy and inexpensive way to refresh the energy of any room. There are so many great ideas out there for adding life, colour, and interest to any space without spending too much money.
Here are some of my favorite ways to give your home a fresh new look.
Paint: Unless you’re going for an all-white, minimalist look, this is the easiest and least expensive way to make a big change in any room. A quick coat of bright paint in bold colour on one wall can be enough to give the whole room a new feel. If you want to sleep easier at night, stick with warm colours like yellow or orange – they tend to soothe and relax, while cooler colours like blue or green may stimulate your mind while you try to fall asleep!
Books: You can’t go wrong with books on any subject that interest you. They are inexpensive and easy to replace – not to mention the hours of reading you can enjoy! If you’re artistic, try arranging them in unique ways for visual interest.
Mirrors: This works well if you just want to add light or depth to a room. Mirrors reflect light and may brighten up darker spaces. You can also try hanging them in interesting arrangements for visual interest.
Plants: Even if you’re not an avid gardener, houseplants can make a big difference in the feel of any room. You don’t have to care for them too much – even fake plants will do! Try grouping different kinds together and see what you like.
Repainting furniture: If you have a piece of furniture that is looking worn, or just doesn’t quite fit in your space anymore, try painting it! You never know until you try – even the cheapest IKEA dresser could be a real show-stopper when given a fresh coat of paint.
Rugs: A new rug can give a room a fresh, clean look. If your old rug is looking worn and faded, it’s probably time for a replacement – and that doesn’t have to be expensive! Just head down to IKEA where you’ll find high-quality rugs at really low prices.
Lighting: This is a really easy way to make a big difference in any room. You can use table lamps, wall sconces, or overhead lighting. Hang one of the lights higher for more impact – just be sure that it’s safe! If you’re unsure, consult an electrician before changing out your light fixtures.
Wall Art: If you want to change the feel of a room, look at your walls. If they are bare, it’s time for some art! Hang up some nice pieces that mean something, or just give the wall some flair with fun colours and/or patterns.
Window Treatments: This can be more expensive than other ideas on this list, but if you’re looking for a really dramatic change in any room, try updating your window treatments. Curtains and blinds can make or break the feel of a room, so take some time to find what works best for your space.
Furniture: If you want to go all out and completely redo one room, this is the way to do it! New furniture can completely change how a room feels and functions. It’s an investment, but one that is well worth it in the end.
