Moore Park
Overview
The Moore Park neighbourhood located in Toronto is surrounded on all sides by natural barriers. North of the neighbourhood is Mount Pleasant Cemetery, to the south is the Park Drive Ravine and the railway tracks. To the east of this Toronto neighbourhood is the Moore Park Ravine and to the West is the Vale of Avoca Ravine. With the abundance of nature in this area, Moore Park is one of Toronto’s most sought after neighbourhoods.
History
In 1889 Moore Park was subdivided as an exclusive suburb for the very wealthy. The neighbourhood received its name by a gentleman named John Thomas Moore who was its creator. He was vital in building the Belt Line Railway, Toronto’s very first commuter train. Moore would personally oversee the construction of the Belt Line’s showpiece station at Moore Park.
Moore used all his money on this commuter train, assuming it would attract many buyers to his Moore Park subdivision. However, shortly after construction was finished, Toronto went through a Depression and the Belt Line went bankrupt. This postponed the construction of new homes in Moore Park until the 1930’s
Real Estate
Moore Park is filled with many English Cottage, Georgian, and Tudor-style houses. Many of the homes were constructed between 1908 and 1930. There are a decent chunk of townhomes built in the 1970s and 1980s with a growing number of new custom homes. The lots in this neigbourhood vary in size but are generally quite big. A fifty foot frontage is relatively common on the more exclusive streets.
The streets in this Toronto neighbourhood feature mature tree canopies and many homes back onto a ravine. Moore Park also includes a number of duplex and multiplex homes. Despite being such a high end neighbourhood, it is quite surprising that many homes have shared driveways, but the streets are uncluttered and quiet.
Lifestyle
Those looking to shop in Moore Park will either go to the Yonge and St. Clair or the Mount Pleasant and Davisville shopping districts.
