A team that was assigned to a Canadian military intelligence unit collected information from people’s social media accounts in Ontario. The team claimed that the data-mining was necessary in order to help the troops working in long-term care homes during the pandemic.
In the majority of cases, data collected included basic information about the long-term care facilities. The collection of data also included users’ public comments about the government’s failure in taking care of the elderly. The Ontario Government received the information from the team along with a warning that there existed a negative public sentiment about how the government was handling long-term care facilities during the pandemic.
