On Tuesday, the Toronto Police Department Services Board purchased 2,350 body cameras to equip the city’s police officers.
After reports on a pilot found that body cameras would improve community relations, Mayor John Tory voted in favor of the cameras.
“Improved accountability is key to rebuilding trust between police and communities; these cameras will be a valuable tool to help with that, though not the only one. I will be seeking tight rules on the operation of these cameras so that their purpose will be genuinely served,” said Tory.
