Ottawa’s English public school board announced a marked drop in enrollment with a possible $24 million budget shortfall.
Elementary enrollment fell 1,700 below projections and 183 fewer high school students than anticipated.
OCDSB uses enrollment estimates to help calculate its budget for the year, but families decided to keep their kids at home due to the pandemic.
Superintendent Janice McCoy said, “As a result of the late shift of enrollment, it’s been more difficult this year than other years to confirm actual enrollment.”
