Corporations are opposing an exemption given to DuPont by the Federal Government. The exemption lets them produce and import thermal insulation products that use hydrofluorocarbons (HFC’s). As a result, companies are accusing the Liberal government of undermining the climate treaty they previously touted.
A manufacturer in France known as Soprema is against the exemptions, as they filed a court case against the government. International firm Honeywell is protesting as they believe the government is rewarding companies that have not put any effort into reducing emissions.
The companies protesting are specifically looking at DuPont as they were granted permission to use hydrofluorocarbons (HFC’s). Environmental organizations describe the compound as a “super greenhouse gas” as it is a thousand times more damaging than carbon dioxide.
