Due to the pandemic, significant travel restrictions are still in effect in jurisdictions across Canada. As a steady flow of vaccines continues to roll out, there is a possibility that Canadians may be able to go on domestic vacations. Dr. Lynora Saxinger, an infectious diseases specialist at the University of Alberta Hospital said “ I actually feel fairly optimistic”.
Saxinger goes on to explain that even if the adult population is only 50 to 60 percent vaccinated, transmission drops a lot. Another expert, Dr. Philippe Lagace-Wiens, an assistant professor of medical microbiology at the University of Manitoba agrees with Saxinger. But said vaccine uptake will have to remain consistent.
Some provinces still have tight restrictions imposed for non-essential travel between provinces. An example is B.C. which restricted travel in 3 regions within the province and told people not to travel outside the province.
