The Internet Explorer which debuted in 1995 is finally coming to an end after Microsoft announced they would cut its support. June 15, 2022, is the scheduled date for its end and is the final nail in the coffin as it’s been on a steady downward spiral for two decades.
Internet Explorer’s share of the browser market fell below the 50 percent threshold in 2010 and now rests at around 5 percent. All according to NetMarketShare, right now Google’s Chrome holds about a 69 percent share of the market.
In Microsoft’s announcement, they said Internet Explorer is slow, no longer practical for or compatible with many web tasks, and is much less secure than modern browsers. Most Windows 10 users probably have Internet Explorer on their computer but never noticed it. Microsoft will ship the app with Windows to make sure the corporate app maintains functioning properly.
Microsoft’s more modern browser is known as Edge and is based on Google’s open-source Chrome code. It has gained a lot more popular than Internet Explorer in recent years.
