    Positivity rates remain low after Ontario health officials report fewer than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus for four straight days. The province confirmed on Thursday that there are 870 new cases of COVID-19. There were 916 new infections on Monday, 699 new infections on Tuesday, and 733 new infections on Wednesday.

    The rolling seven-day average in Ontario now is at 940, which is 501 fewer cases from last week’s average. With a total of 32,277 tests processed in the last day, the positivity rate records at 2.8 per cent Thursday. The total amount of lab-confirmed cases in Ontario so far is at 533,761 now. 

    The cases of new infections are concentrated in the Greater Toronto Area. Health officials reported 224 new cases in Toronto, 167 in Peel Region, 44 in Durham Region, and 28 in York Region. The province also noted an increase in COVID-19 variants such as the U.K variant, South African variant, and Brazillian variant.
