For at least another month travel restrictions at the Canada-U.S. border will stay in effect. This comes after Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said the American and Canadian governments are extending COVID-19 restrictions on non-essential international travel until July 21.
In addition, he tweeted the government will supply details on Monday in regards to fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents entering the country. The original restrictions at the border have been in place since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.
Businesses and American lawmakers have been pressuring the government to relax restrictions as vaccination rates surge in Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said it would take roughly 75 per cent of Canadians to get vaccinated before they can lift restrictions.
