Visitors wishing to ride up the Eiffel Tower or visit any French tourist venue will need a special COVID-19 pass. This is the nation’s first approach to dealing with the rise in Delta variant cases. In order to get the COVID-19 pass, individuals must show they are fully vaccinated or have a negative virus test or even proof of recently recovering from the virus.
As the new rule was imposed on Wednesday, many tourists unprepared for the news were lined up to receive a quick virus test. The Prime Minister of France Jean Castex said “The world is facing a new wave, and we must act,” He is urging people in France to get vaccinated to avoid new lockdowns. France recorded 18,000 positive cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and 96 per cent of those infected are unvaccinated.
The Eiffel Tower has masked workers that will scan QR codes on digital health passes or checked printed vaccines. This measure went into effect at a lot of cultural and tourist sites. People in France have mixed feelings about these new requirements.
