Ontario sees a slight increase in COVID-19 infections as the seven-day rolling average rises. On Friday, health officials in the province reported exactly 226 new cases of COVID-19. The total amount of lab-confirmed cases is now 550,178 in the province.
This bumped up the seven-day rolling average of daily cases counts to roughly 170, the highest average in two weeks. The Ministry of Health said the positivity rate stans at 1.1 per cent as they processed 20,993 COVID-19 tests in the last 24-hour period. Hospitals in the province occupy 117 patients with the virus in intensive care units with 77 of those individuals breathing with a ventilator.
Ontario has been in Step 3 of its reopening for 14 days and is meeting its vaccination targets. More than 80 per cent of individuals aged 12 and older eligible for a vaccine have at least one dose, according to the Ministry of Health. They were 62 new cases in Toronto, 35 in Waterloo, and 35 in Peel Region. York Region, Hamilton, and Halton Region reported double-digit cases as well.
