On Wednesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 139 new infections of COVID-19. This represents a decrease as on Monday there were 164 new cases and on Tuesday there were 168 new cases.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 198 as it was at 160 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 1.2 per cent as it processed 17,115 tests in the last 24-hour period. Currently, hospitals across the province occupy 108 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care units and 76 of them are using breathing ventilators.
There were 26 cases in Toronto, 15 in the York Region, 18 in the Peel Region, and 11 in Durham Region. Waterloo also reported 19 new cases, Hamilton logged 12 and Windsor reported 10. All the other regions outside the GTA logged less than 10 new cases of the novel coronavirus. The province also updated people on variants of concern. They found two new cases of the Alpha variant and one new case of the Gamma variant. There were 25 cases of the Delta variant and none og the Beta variant.
