On Tuesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 321 new infections of COVID-19. This represents a decrease as on Monday there were 325, on Sunday there were 423 new cases and 378 new cases on Saturday. Sunday was the first day since mid-June when the province reported more than 400 new infections in one day. Today is also the fifth day in-a-row Ontario has reported daily case counts above 300
The seven-day rolling average is up to 306 as it was at 198 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 1.7 per cent as it processed 16,500 tests in the last 24-hour period. Currently, hospitals across the province have 109 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care units and 72 of them are using breathing ventilators.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 96 cases in Toronto. 31 in Peel Region, 30 in York Region, 31 in Hamilton, 22 in Windsor-Essex, 16 in Halton, 75 in Middlesex-London, 15 in Simcoe Muskoka, and 10 in Waterloo.
