The University of Ottawa has just announced that COVID-19 vaccination will be mandatory for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors to its campus. Anyone planning to be on campus in the fall must have received at least one dose by September 7 and must be fully vaccinated by October 15. Prior to this announcement, the institution said proof of vaccination would be necessary to live in residence or participate in sports.
They expanded these rules and said “The risk posed by the pandemic are clear, and the path to staying safe, ever clearer,” The president of the university Jacques Fremont explained, “This decision is based on both common sense and good science and on the advice of public health authorities.”
The school will still enforce physical distancing and masks used on the campus. They will also make accommodations for anyone who cannot receive a vaccination due to medical reasons. The university said, “Those who remain unvaccinated and who must access the campus will be required to follow health protocols such as frequent testing, wearing masks and other PPE, if necessary.”
