The new Toronto Raptor Goran Dragic is trying to minimize the damage after comments he made after being traded from Miami. On Sunday, the 14-year NBA veteran said “Toronto is not my preferred destination, I have higher ambitions.” while speaking to media in Slovenia. He said the comment was taken out of context.
Kyle Lowry was traded in a sign-and-trade deal that resulted in Goran Dragic and Precious Achiuwa being traded to the Raptors last week. Dragic responded after saying “I told reporters that I had spent seven years in Miami and that would be the preferred destination for me because my family is there and everything, not Toronto.”
Dragic added “My message basically, to all Toronto fans, is I would like to apologize. It didn’t come out the right way. I know they love their team, and they should be proud, it is one of the best organizations in the NBA. They’ve already won a championship and I didn’t, so what I said, it really was not appropriate.” Dragic’s stay may be short in Toronto as the team is rebuilding and he has a one-year and $19.5 million US remaining on his contract.
