On Wednesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 324 new infections of COVID-19. This represents a decrease as on Sunday there were 423 new cases and 378 new cases on Saturday. Sunday was the first day since mid-June when the province reported more than 400 new infections in one day.
Most of the new cases were among unvaccinated individuals as they accounted for 234 out of the 324 that got infected. 32 of the cases were found in people that are partially vaccinated and 58 cases were logged in people fully vaccinated.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 332 as it was at 198 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 1.7 per cent as it processed 24,772 tests in the last 24-hour period. Currently, hospitals across the province have 79 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care units.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 72 new cases in Toronto, 41 cases in Hamilton, 31 cases in York Region and 30 in Peel Region. Waterloo logged 27 new cases, Windsor-Essex reported 22, Halton Region found 17, Durham Region logged 12 and Ottawa reported 13.
