On Friday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 510 new infections of COVID-19. This represents a significant increase as on Wednesday there were 324 new cases and 321 new cases on Tuesday. Today and yesterday were the first days since mid-June when the province reported more than 500 new infections in one day.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 399 as it was at 214 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 2.0 per cent as it processed 23,500 tests in the last 24-hour period. Currently, hospitals across the province have 111 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care units and only three of them are fully vaccinated according to Ontario officials. The other patients are either not fully vaccinated or have an unknown status.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 129 new cases in Toronto, 51 cases in Hamilton, 61 cases in Peel Region, and 41 in Windsor-Essex. Waterloo logged 24 new cases, York Region reported 33, Halton Region found 26, Durham Region logged 17 and Ottawa reported 22.
