On Monday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 526 new infections of COVID-19. This is the fifth straight day in a row where Ontario is reporting more than 500 new cases of the novel coronavirus. Before Thursday, the province had not reported over 500 cases since June 12 when health officials logged 520 new cases.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 469 as it was at 283 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 2.7 per cent as it processed 15,784 tests in the last 24-hour period. 350 of the confirmed cases today were among people who are unvaccinated. There were 67 cases in people who are partially vaccinated and the remaining 94 were found in people who are fully vaccinated.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 128 new cases in Toronto, 66 cases in York Region, 83 cases in Peel Region, and 17 in Durham Region. Hamilton logged 52 new cases, Windsor reported 46, Halton Region found 10, and Ottawa reported 20.
