On Friday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 650 new infections of COVID-19. The province confirmed 485 new infections on Wednesday and 531 new cases on Thursday. The last time the province experienced numbers this high was on June 6 with 663 new infections.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 518 as it was at 399 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 2.4 per cent as it processed 28,635 tests in the last 24-hour period. Currently, there are at least 176 people in the hospital due to COVID-19, 13 of them are fully vaccinated and the other 163 are either not fully vaccinated or their status is unknown.
547 of the new cases today involved people who are either unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or their status is unknown. The other 103 infections were in people who are fully vaccinated. There were 136 new cases in Toronto, 63 cases in York Region, 113 cases in Peel Region, and 25 in Durham Region. Hamilton logged 55 new cases, Windsor reported 48, Halton Region found 19, and Ottawa reported 22.
