As hot and humid weather continues to scorch Toronto, officials had to extend the original heat warning. Environment Canada first reported the heat warning on Thursday but today it had to extend the warning through this week. The weather agency said extreme temperatures will go through Monday and possibly into the middle of the week.
On Monday, temperatures could reach 31 C with humidex values of 36 to 40, according to Environment Canada. Even during the nights, temperatures will drop no lower than 21 C during this extreme heat.
Environment Canada said “Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality,” The agency added that “The risks are greater for younger children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.” Other areas such as Durham Region, Peel Region, Halton Region, and York Region have been issued heat warnings.
