On Tuesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 486 new infections of COVID-19. This is the first time in five days where Ontario is reported less than 500 new daily cases. However, on Monday health officials reported 639, on Sunday there were 722 new infections and 689 on Saturday.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 600 as it was at 495 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 3.0 per cent as it processed 17,300 tests in the last 24-hour period. 372 of the confirmed cases today were among people who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, or have an unknown status. There were 114 cases in people who are fully vaccinated but still got infected by the virus.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 129 new cases in Toronto, 45 cases in York Region, 82 cases in Peel Region, and 27 in Halton Region. Hamilton logged 45 new cases, Windsor-Essex reported 47, Niagra found 11, and Ottawa reported 12.
