On Wednesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 865 new infections of COVID-19. This comes after three straight days of the province reporting fewer than 700 new infections. The last time case counts were above 850 was back on June 4. There are at least 320 people in Ontario hospitals due to COVID-19, 28 of the people are fully vaccinated and 292 patients are unvaccinated or have an unknown status.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 728 as it was at 646 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 3.0 per cent as it processed 27,293 tests in the last 24-hour period. 692 of the confirmed cases today were among people who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or their status is unknown. There were 173 cases in people who are fully vaccinated but still got infected by the virus.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 175 new cases in Toronto, 91 cases in York Region, 104 cases in Peel Region, and 22 in Durham Region. Hamilton logged 89 new cases and 33 in Ottawa.
