On Tuesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 581 new infections of COVID-19. The province did not count cases yesterday due to the statutory holiday but they confirmed today, that it was 564 cases on Monday. There are at least 295 people in Ontario hospitals due to COVID-19, 34 of the people are fully vaccinated and 192 patients are in intensive care units.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 746 as it was at 701 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 3.4 per cent as it processed 17,118 tests in the last 24-hour period. 434 of the confirmed cases today were among people who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or their status is unknown. There were 130 cases in people who are fully vaccinated but still got infected by the virus.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. Over the past 2 days, there were 232 new cases in Toronto, 125 cases in York Region, 139 cases in Peel Region, and 53 in Durham Region. Hamilton logged 75 new cases, 578 in Ottawa, and Windsor-Essex logged 127.
