On Thursday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 798 new infections of COVID-19 as students return to class. This comes after three days in a row where the province reported cases under 600 and the majority of infected are unvaccinated. There are at least 365 people in Ontario hospitals due to COVID-19, 331 of the patients are either unvaccinated, partially vaccianted or have an unknown status and 34 of them are fully vaccinated.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 722 as it was at 728 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 3.1 per cent as it processed 29,684 tests in the last 24-hour period. 620 of the confirmed cases today were among people who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or their status is unknown and 178 of the cases were among fully vaccinated individuals.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 159 new cases in Toronto, 72 cases in York Region, 73 cases in Peel Region, and 72 in Ottawa. Hamilton logged 55 new cases, and Windsor-Essex logged 66.
