On Friday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 848 new infections of COVID-19. This comes a day after three consecutive days where the province reported cases under 600 and the majority of infected are unvaccinated. There are at least 361 people in Ontario hospitals due to COVID-19, 331 of the patients are either unvaccinated or have an unknown status and at least 30 of them are fully vaccinated.
The seven-day rolling average dropped to 728 as it was at 731 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 3.1 per cent as it processed 28,247 tests in the last 24-hour period. Ontario is on its 10-month for its vaccination campaign, with a total of 21,098,125 needled going into people’s arms.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 166 new cases in Toronto, 77 cases in York Region, 117 cases in Peel Region, and 52 in Ottawa. Hamilton logged 53 new cases, and Windsor-Essex logged 74.
