On Monday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 600 new infections of COVID-19 as the province hits new vaccine milestones. On Sunday, there were 784 new cases, 857 cases on Saturday, and 848 cases on Friday. There are at least 189 people in Ontario intensive care units due to COVID-19.
The seven-day rolling average dropped to 717 today. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 3.1 per cent as it processed 19,100 tests in the last 24-hour period. 474 of the new cases today were among those who are not fully vaccinated or has an unknown status. 11 million people in Ontario have received a first dose and officials say about 84 per cent of eligible Canadians aged 12 and up have had one dose. 78 per cent are considered fully vaccinated.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 114 new cases in Toronto, 67 cases in York Region, 84 cases in Peel Region, and 59 in Ottawa. Hamilton logged 32 new cases, and Windsor-Essex logged 47.
