On Friday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 795 new infections of COVID-19 signifying a slight decrease from Thursday. On Monday there were 600 infections, Tuesday there were 577 new cases, 593 cases on Wednesday, and 864 on Thursday. There are at least 336 people in Ontario hospitals due to the virus and only 30 of them are fully vaccinated.
The seven-day rolling average dropped to 724 today as it was 728 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 2.4 per cent as it processed 33,763 tests in the last 24-hour period. 582 of the new cases today were among those who are not vaccinated, partially vaccinated or have an unknown status. As of Monday, 11 million people in Ontario have received the first dose and officials say about 84 per cent of eligible Canadians aged 12 and up have had one dose.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. There were 162 new cases in Toronto, 71 cases in York Region, 77 cases in Peel Region, and 60 in Durham. Ottawa logged 64 new cases, Windsor-Essex logged 50, and all other regions reported fewer than 30 new cases.
